Art Supplies and Drawing Materials
Any art supplies and drawing materials store, online or 'out there' is packed with a huge array of confusing media.
Pencils in all grades of hardness and softness, 'putty' erasers you can knead, others you cut to shape, or run on batteries, not to mention the push up ones. And don't get me started on pens...
And what about sketchbooks? Smooth paper or textured? Expensive, luxury books or cheap and cheerful? Small large or medium - or everything in between. Trying to choose supplies for drawing, painting or printing can be very confusing...
And we haven't even considered sheets of paper yet! Bristol board, cartridge, acid free, sugar paper, HP, NOT, extra rough... for the uninitiated it's enough to make you turn around and run.
The Guide
Here you'll find a guide to the materials you need for getting started,
sketching
, following the
drawing lessons
and progressing. I'll be adding to these pages regularly with descriptions, explanations and reviews of different drawing media, but begin with the basics. You don't need much and it certainly won't be very expensive because you'll only buy what you need as you need it- and you'll be buying the right supplies for learning how to draw and sketch first time.
Feeling stuck for something to draw? In need of a little inspiration? Subscribe to my e-zine,
